Tabcorp Park Menangle is the great success story of Australian Harness Racing. It’s the state of the art venue from which the sport has established a global reputation. 

The Paceway, formerly a training facility, was given a $30m facelift to become the headquarters of the NSW Harness Racing Club (NSWHRC). It has a new metropolitan standard race track - at 1400m, the largest in Australia - which have produced faster times than ever before and generated unprecedented interest from around the globe in Australian racing and horses. 

Great food and drink has always played an important part in a day at the races, so the NWSHRC was keen to ensure that their restaurants and bars complemented the world class racing experience. Operations Manager Bruce Christison says “We have12 food and beverage outlets, including a 350-seat restaurant, 4 function rooms and 2 permanent marquees, with a total seated dining capacity of 150”’. 

The Menangle team was clear on what they were looking for in a POS solution for the new venues. “It had to be centrally controlled and have good networking capability to connect our outlets across the complex,” explains Bruce. “We wanted full integration to EFTPOS, stock control and our existing reservation and membership system. And of course it needed to be reliable and price competitive. Redcat ticked all the boxes”.

Implementation had to be fitted around the busy race schedule, and Bruce was impressed at Redcat’s commitment to ensuring a smooth transition. “I couldn’t ask for more in terms of the support I’ve had from the Redcat team” he says.” They’ve been onsite for every race meet that I’ve asked them to attend in the roll out phase and implementation process.”

The biggest game changer delivered by Redcat is having full POS integration. “A price change for example, now flows through the whole network”, explains Bruce. “We don’t have to run around to every register across the complex to make a change, we now manage it from one central computer.”

Redcat’s intuitive interface has also been a big positive. “It’s really user friendly which has been great for our staff. We have a core team but also employ a lot of casual and agency workers, so the ability for them to pick it up quickly on race days is a real bonus.” 

Redcat and Tabcorp Menangle Park have proved to be a sure-fire winner.
